The Vintage Holiday!

Recently we’ve asked one of our lovely interns Alex to delve into the UK vintage holiday scene and to come up with some super cool suggestions on where to holiday ‘vintage style’!

—————

It doesn’t seem like more than 2 minutes ago since we were decking the halls and donning our Christmas jumpers, but already we’re at that time of year when we find ourselves judging whether it’s a flip flops day yet! Everyone’s already talking about where they’re jetting off to but if you’ve not decided yet or you’re holding out for something a little different then look no further!

Vintage inspired holidays are becoming extremely popular across the UK (and even further afield) so we decided to make things easy for you and put together a neat little guide for your perfect vintage getaway!

For caravanning with a twist try Happy Days, Jenni and Kevin Armstrong set up their campsite in Dorset in 2005, filling it with cosy, retro caravans for you to hire! Happy Days is ideally located for day trips to the sandy beaches of Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch, but before you set off why not pick up a bespoke picnic hamper from Vintage Rose Catering!

Too far down South for you? Mad Dogs and Vintage Vans offer a very similar experience slightly further North in Ross-on-Wye (about an hour from Birmingham and Bristol). Their gorgeous caravans are all playfully named and beautifully decorated! With numerous market towns, plenty of hiking routes, pony trekking, wild swimming and even the Hay-on-Wye Literature Festival all around the corner, there’s plenty to see and do!

If you like to have more freedom and a bit of an adventure on your holidays take a look at Split the Difference. Their ‘home is where you park it’ philosophy means that when you hire one of their VW Camper vans, you can cruise the open roads at your will; if you can’t decide where to go then their website has various routes for you to take, whether it be the ‘Tea and Cake Tour’, ‘Antique and Craft Exploration’ or a more adrenaline infused ‘Surfing Adventure’, the choice is yours!

For some, a holiday isn’t a holiday if there’s not a beach in sight…if this sounds like you then have you ever thought about going back in time and hiring a traditional seafront beach hut? Us neither…until now! Scarborough Beach Huts makes it all possible, so throw on your retro swimwear, grab your bucket and spade and prepare yourself for days spent paddling in the sea, donkey rides and as much ice cream as you can imagine!

Finally, if camping and caravanning isn’t really your thing, then why not take a look at this cosy, vintage cottage in Fort William, Scotland? ‘Cooks Flat’, designed by Suzy Hoodless takes ‘chintz’ to a whole new level and is entirely remote – 8 miles down a private road, surrounded by mountains kind of remote –  so if it’s a relaxing, remote or romantic getaway you’re looking for, this is perfect.

How remote!

Failing that…this ultra cool retro flat in the heart of York (off the very popular Stonegate) is beyond perfect for that last minute city break! You couldn’t ask for a more centrally located…yet quiet apartment! The Old Gallery sleeps 4 and has some funky features such as a vinyl player, wicked furniture, retro board games and if you don’t fancy cooking the owners at Trembling Madness do superb food! – we highly recommend! (but we would as we’re from York!)
