A vintage Christmas check list

Last week we welcomed our lovely intern – Emma, who has come all the way from Italy (Milan, of all places!) to learn about event management and work at Britain Does Vintage HQ until Feb 2014! So Emma has written a brill blog on inspiring vintage christmas presents for all the family! We just LOVE the notebook idea for the grandparents – how cute!

For mum…

Lets face it, us women love anything sparkly, feminine, luxurious and generally FABULOUS! So what could be more perfect than a gorgeous pair of vintage drop earrings, a vintage Hermes scarf, or even a rather practical, but sumptuous vintage clutch bag for those evening occasions! We highly recommend a local vintage shop for these so you can test the quality and make sure it’s something your mum will love and adore!

Vintage bag inspiration – we LOVE the 20s flapper ones!

It's all about the Hermes scarf!

It’s all about the Hermes scarf!

For dad…

Now hands up if you’ve bought your father a pair of socks not once, not twice but more than three times … and you know what…yes men are sometimes more practical than us ladies, but surely they’re worth more than a pair of socks kids! So we’re thinking vintage briefcases, vintage man bags, handfuls of quirky vintage ties and dicky bows – or even a beautiful vintage camera (working of course) for the photography buffs out there! That’s daddy sorted! You can find plenty of ties, bow ties and cameras in any good vintage shops and often at your local charity shops – just make sure you give them a good clean, or perhaps pop them into the nearby dry cleaners for a freshen up!

Ties and dicky bows GALORE!

For the children…

There was a time when we played with simple toys and enjoyed nothing more than a game of cards with the family. Why not hark back to simple eras and put a vintage toy under the tree – after all they really are little master pieces and lifelong, loyal friends due to their craftsmanship and quality! The little ones may not quite get it, but it sure does give you an opportunity to sit down and teach them about your own childhood and create cherished Christmas memories! A great place to source vintage toys will be online or of course at a Britain Does Vintage fair – (but with no more fairs before Christmas sadly we can’t help!) You could even try a local toy shop for some advice or indoor winter car booty!

What did you play with most as a child?

For the grandparents…

Grandparents always seen to be scribbling away at something – grocery lists, things to do, birthday reminders – there’s always something! And saving scraps of envelopes or corners of previous lists is a firm favourite! So why not find them the perfect vintage notebook – combining practicality with quality and humble history. Pop into your local charity shops, scour the bric ‘n’ brac stores and vintage shops – you’re be sure to find a quirky and cute notebook they’ll love and use!

Stack them up, put a ribbon around et voila!

And there we are folks – Christmas sorted!

All the above items mentioned can usually be found at our vintage fairs – so if there’s a special birthday coming up or occasion, then make sure you get along to our 2014 fairs – we have plenty booked in and lots of new cities waiting for us! We can’t wait to see you!

We’ll be back soon with more pre-loved inspiration and humbling stories! Alex and Sam x
