Love is in the air – so we couldn’t not blog about all things vintage and LOVE-ly! Here’s Gina’s tips on how to plan a gorgeous vintage inspired wedding!
So you want to go for a vintage wedding? Great. So do we! “But how do you start?” I hear you ask. Well, we’ve got a few ideas to help you…
As wonderful as those glossy magazines are for gathering inspiration for your big day, if you’re set on vintage, you’ll need to spend much of your time browsing the blogosphere. There are some incredible blogs dedicated to the idea of “the vintage wedding” and other offbeat, kooky themes. So we’ve gathered our Top 5 for you to get started. I hope you have a spare afternoon – who am I kidding, you’ll need an entire day off for these!
- Rock ‘N’ Roll Bride are the big mommas of the alternative wedding scene so definitely worth being your first port of call. With hundreds of real wedding submissions, it’s inspiration overload.
- Rock My Wedding brings you real wedding submissions and a plethora of advice, articles and even a “sell my dress” section where you might pick up your beautiful wedding gown!
- Love My Dress provide you with all of the above in a lovely, cute, rustic and pretty style with an easy to navigate website.
- Whimsical Wonderland Weddings make the photos a priority so you can start taking mental notes immediately just by scrolling down each page.
- Boho Weddings make finding your photographer, dress or florist that little bit easier with an easy to use directory and a mass of tutorials and helpful article. And it looks just adorable!
Now you’ve got a never ending supply of weddings to swoon over, you best get a Pinterest account and start logging everything into separate boards! Dresses, Colours, Themes, Flowers etc so you don’t lose your favourite photos. The best thing about Pinterest is that you can ‘unpin’ photos should your ideas change!
Top Tip: Look at real submissions to see which suppliers they used, especially weddings in your region.
Vintage Wedding Fairs
Now it’s all well and good being able to daydream and swoon over fantasy weddings online, taking multitudes of notes and making pinterest boards until 3am. But there’s nothing quite like heading to fairs. Here you’ll be able to talk to the people who really could be helping turn those dreams to reality, collect a plethora of flyers and business cards and see dresses float down catwalks.
But please don’t get caught up in the big glitzy fairs hosted by the big magazines. By all means go mad at events like The National Wedding Show! But don’t forget the little people. The small, independent events are where you’ll find some of the more interesting and quirky services on offer out there AT CHEAPER PRICES! So pop our wedding fair at Merchant Adventurers Fair on March 23rd into your diaries!
Top Tip: Don’t just attend vintage wedding fairs, vintage fashion fairs often host a beautiful array of vintage dresses, accessories and homeware to get your creative juices flowing! You might even find your wedding entertainment.
Be Savvy Online (keep it local!)
More and more little local businesses are arriving onto our vintage wedding radar. Use twitter and Facebook to hunt these guys out and support your local independent businesses. Especially china and prop hire companies, bunting, florists, and vintage inspired stationary. More often than not these guys are putting their heart and soul into their craft and endeavour to do what they can for your special event. Not only this, but wedding suppliers are mostly well connected. Struggling to find the ideal campervan? They might know just the exact person you need. No local singers meet your criteria? Well they may well have met the perfect singer at a fair last week! Knowledge is power! Plus we think keeping it independent gives a warm fuzzy feeling and a personal touch!
Top Tip: Visit the facebook page of your favourite wedding fair, look to the right hand side of the page and see “Recent posts by others”. Here you’ll often find lots and lots of little business pages for you to browse!
So we wish you all the best with your vintage inspired wedding and hope to see it reviewed on one of the top blogs soon! OR….if you fancy being our first ‘real’ wedding we would absolutely love to hear from you!
We’ll be back soon with more pre-loved inspiration and humbling stories! Alex and Sam x
