This weekend has just seen our first 2013 vintage fair in York, Yorkshire at the gorgeous Merchant Adventurer’s Hall. The weather was…well not quite what we’d hoped for – but the crowds still flocked in and we saw over 1,000 vintage lovers through the doors.
Although we are based in York at YSJ and regularly wander the streets looking for inspiration and vintage style, we are still struck by its beauty – the quirky shops, rustic cafes and quintessential charm. Our city is the home to a wealth of historic attractions – with York Minster and of course the Merchant Adventurers Hall being two of the most prominent. Whether you are after culture, gorgeous shops (we love the Flax and Twine), tasty restaurants and café’s, boutique hotels or even fabulous sport, York really should be right at the top of your ‘to do’ list.
When the sun is shining there really is no place sweeter than relaxing at York Racecourse on acres of grassland, admiring the spectacular grandstands, which played host to Royal Ascot in 2005. You can even add a twist of vintage to your time at the racecourse with a York Racecourse vintage day out a must (think picnics, classic cars, a retro hamper and of course the family – there is no time like the past!).
Our tip for a great 2013 spring break in York…
Why not book yourself a gorgeous hotel – try the Guy Fawkes Inn the former home to of course Guy Fawkes, pull out a stunning vintage inspired outfit – perhaps a 1920’s flapper style dress with a cute beaded fascinator and sunglasses to match like these bold beauties from York Does Vintage, and get down to the Dante festival at York Racecourse in May where you can show York vintage fashion in all its glory and how it can be adapted to suit all occasions.
Then if that’s not enough – spend the weekend relaxing in our beautiful city, taking in its charm and plentiful history, before visiting us in the Merchant Adventurers Hall in the centre of York on the 19th May. York Does Vintage showcases a huge array and of the best vintage York and it’s surroundings has to offer – think a very large and breathtaking vintage emporium in the heart of York! What a brilliant short break.
We’ll be back soon with more pre-loved inspiration and humbling stories! Alex and Sam x
